The Day of your tattoo

Excitement and nervousness well up after the wait. You found the perfect design, and the right artist for the job... It’s your tattoo day! How exciting for you.

Some people forget that this is something to prepare for. its not just a jump in and see how it goes. A little planning ahead of time goes a long way to make this experience more enjoyable and will actually help the tattoo heal quicker with better results. Little things like eating before, during, and after and staying well hydrated for a few days before your tattoo make all the difference.

On Tattoo Day:

  1. Wear Appropriate Clothing: Dress comfortably, but ensure the clothing allows easy access to the area being tattooed. Loose-fitting and breathable attire is often a good choice.

  2. Stay Hydrated: Continue to drink water on the day of the tattoo. Hydrated skin makes it easier for the artist to work, and you'll feel better during the process.

  3. Eat a Meal: Have a light and balanced meal before your appointment to keep your energy levels up. Avoid heavy, greasy, or spicy foods, as they can make you feel uncomfortable during the tattooing process.

  4. Bring Snacks; in addition to your meal, bring a few snacks. something to keep your blood sugar up, distract from the pain, and help keep you pushing through.

  5. Arrive on Time: Punctuality is crucial. Arrive at the studio on time, or even a little early, to complete any necessary paperwork and make yourself comfortable.

  6. Bring Distractions: Depending on the size and complexity of your tattoo, the process can take a while. Bring a book, music, or a friend to keep you entertained and relaxed during the session.

  7. Communicate with Your Artist: Throughout the process, communicate openly with your tattoo artist. If you need a break, have questions, or feel discomfort, don't hesitate to speak up. A good artist will prioritize your comfort and satisfaction.

  8. Aftercare Instructions: Pay close attention to the aftercare instructions your artist provides. Proper aftercare is essential for healing and maintaining the quality of your tattoo.

  9. Plan for Healing Time: Understand that a new tattoo will need time to heal. Avoid swimming, direct sunlight, and tight clothing on the freshly inked area. Follow your artist's recommendations for aftercare to ensure a vibrant and long-lasting tattoo.

In summary, preparing for a tattoo involves careful consideration of your design, choosing the right artist, and taking good care of your body in the days leading up to your appointment. On the day of your tattoo, communication with your artist is key, along with being well-rested and following proper aftercare. With these steps, you can ensure a positive and memorable tattoo experience.

Common Tattoo Questions; Cover-Up Tattoos - By Jon Poulson

In a perfect world, we could cover a "Mistake Tattoo" with a beautiful image and that old tattoo would simply disappear into the past with no trace. The new tattoo would magically hide any and all traces of that old mistake... But it just doesn't work like that in the real world.

Beware of tattooers that claim to be able to cover anything, even thick black tattoos with any color or image you want without any problems... You'll end up with an even bigger mess after it all heals…
